Annapolis Area Summer Bucket List

The doulas at Annapolis Area Doulas are thrilled that summer has arrived!  Summertime in Annapolis is like being on a three month long vacation—there is so much to do and see.  We have compiled a list of all the things we want to do before summer comes to an end.

Visit a Local Beach

Living so close to the Chesapeake Bay, we have our pick of local beaches.  Sandy Point State Park is an awesome location with a minimal fee for entry, and there is a snack shack and lifeguards are on duty.  Mayo Beach Park is another great location.  Across the Bay Bridge on Kent Island are Terrapin Nature Park and Matapeake Beach.  If a smaller, neighborhood beach is more your speed, there are lots in the East Annapolis neighborhoods and Pasadena.  If you’re up for a bit of a drive, Chesapeake Beach is a fun vacation or day trip destination, and the beach at Calvert Cliffs is a great place to find shark teeth.

Dine al Fresco

Annapolis has no shortage of al fresco dining.  We love watching the action along Ego Alley from Pusser’s Caribbean Grill; watching the boat traffic from the deck at Carrol’s Creek Café; and sitting under the trees on the back patio of Ram’s Head Tavern with friends.

Eat Crabs

It just isn’t summer in the Annapolis Area without at least one crab feast.  We love getting friends and family together for a home cookout, or going to Cantler’s in Annapolis or Kaufmann’s in Gambrills.  We will be ordering hush puppies with our crabs!

Visit City Dock

Our absolute favorite thing to do with our little ones is to feed the ducks at City Dock and then get ice cream at the legendary Storm Bros.  Check out their list of flavors!  We like them all, but with a weakness for chocolate, we have to say that Mocha Toffee Crunch is the winner.

Get Out on the Water

Whether or not you own a boat or vessel of any kind, there are plenty of ways to get out on the water this summer.  We like this list of 10 ways to get out on the water this summer.  We will be taking a trip on the City Dock water taxi, renting kayaks at Quiet Waters Park, and trying our hand at stand up paddle boarding on the Severn River.

Outdoor Music Concert

Summer Park Concerts are the best way to spend an Annapolis summer evening.  There are so many to choose from, all with great music and locations.  You can check out the schedule of events by park here.  We will be packing a picnic dinner, spreading out a blanket, and probably doing some dancing.

First Sunday Arts Festival

Every first Sunday of the month May-December, West Street downtown is filled with vendors, artists, musicians, performers, and lots of food.  We love to take our kiddos along to see the best of Annapolis’ artists showcase their art. Visit FirstSundayArts.com to learn more about this fantastic summer series!

Take a Historic Tour

Annapolis Area Doulas is proud of our community and the rich history that it was built upon.  We love playing tourist and taking tours through some of the historic sites in Annapolis.  While the Naval Academy and the Capitol Building are our favorite historical sites to tour, VisitAnnapolis.org has a more comprehensive list of tours you can take to learn more about our beautiful city.

We are looking forward to a fun, relaxing, and educational summer for ourselves and our little ones.  Just like a tour guide taking tourists through the Naval Academy, Annapolis Area Doulas are here to help our clients learn the most and have the best possible experience in their pregnancy and post partum season.  We are here to answer any questions you may have.  Contact us today!
