Our Favorite Farmer’s Markets

The spring and summer aren’t in full swing until all the seasonal farmer’s markets make their debut.

These local marketplaces keep fresh produce and pantry items in our homes that are free of harsh chemicals and preservatives, and our local economies constantly stimulated which supports our friends and neighbors. A trip to the farmer’s market is a fun event that the whole family can enjoy, with plenty to see, do and of course taste.

From farm baked sweets to homemade cosmetics and salves, these events offer so many different products and supplies to sample and stock up on.

In lieu of farmer’s market season taking off, we’ve put together a list of our favorite markets to visit with our family in Annapolis and surrounding towns and cities.

Bowie’s Farmer’s Market

Running from May 21st to October 29th, the Bowie High School parking lot comes alive each Sunday with fresh local fare. There’s a wide variety of locally sourced produce, breads, pastries, jams, honeys, plants, cut flowers, and more. This farmer’s market is an awesome one stop shop and they even feature a wide variety of local meats and dairy. The vendors are fun and friendly here and you can grab all the dinner ingredients on your list in one convenient place.

Crofton Farmer’s Market

Already underway since April 20th, the Crofton Farmer’s Market is Anne Arundel County’s largest farmer’s market with over 60 different vendors to enjoy. This market has convenient hours for weekday stock ups with hours every Wednesday from 3pm-7pm. They offer a ton of different products, collectibles and supplies as well as locally prepared foods and homemade crafts. They even have a free smart phone app to help keep you in the loop with Crofton Farmer’s Market events, news and vendor information. Check out this great marketplace at the Crofton Country Club this year at 1691 Crofton Pkwy, Crofton, MD 21114.

Pennsylvania Dutch Farmer’s Market

Affectionately known as the “Amish Market” by the locals, this farmer’s market is an Annapolis favorite that’s nestled in the historic Annapolis Harbour Center. This massive collection of authentic PA Dutch treats and products draws massive crowds from surrounding states each year. Whether you’re picking out a carton of perfect strawberries or browsing for some sweets through the old world candy shop, you’ll never have the same experience twice. Full of friendly faces and recipes that have been passed through generations, we can’t get enough of the Amish market in the summer sunshine. Even if you head over for some healthy produce, you won’t leave without some local indulgences.

Baltimore’s Farmer’s Market and Bazaar

Opening for the season on May 7th, you can visit this awesome farmer’s market every Sunday underneath the Jones Falls Expressway. As Maryland’s largest producers-only market, every vendor here makes their own goods and products. Authenticity is in no short supply and aside from amazing produce and organic herbs, there’s an absolute ton of arts, crafts and gifts to pick up along the way. The bazaar is one of our favorite spots for Sunday brunch and the first stop for our weekend picnics at the park with an extensive menu for whatever you’re craving.
